Breyer Horse Traditional
The Breyer Traditionals stem from the original Breyer horse ordered by Woolworth's that got their whole train a-rollin' . The Traditionals depict horses in realistic and exquisite detail.
Sculpted at 1:9 scalar ratio, these have been the most requested and sought model horses in the world since 1950. No two are exactly alike and each one is handled by an average of 20 different artists from conception to completion.
One of the biggest selling Breyer Traditionals is Black Beauty (number 1317). A model of author Anna Sewell’s wise old horse who recounts the joys and adversities of his life as a riding and carriage horse in London has been in the Breyer line since 1979. Released on a new mold for 2008, Black Beauty is now part of the Young Readers Series and is packaged with a paperback version of Anna Sewell’s novel.
Model 1321 Cheveyo won a 2008 Spring Collector's Choice award, being the winning entry of Rebecca Ann Whitehurst of Brooklet, GA, and limited to January through June 2008 production. The seventh edition in Breyer’s Collector’s Choice series, Chevyo's dunalino color is a rare combination of palomino and dun markings with stripes on his legs. Cheveyo represents the Mustang, descended primarily from the horses brought to America by the Conquistadors in the 16th century and known for its hardiness, grace, and independent spirit.
Voted the Trail Pleasure Horse of the Year by Voice of the "Tennessee Walking Horse" magazine in 2005, model 585 Bluegrass Bandit depicts a 2002 grey Tennessee Walking Horse mare, is known to steal the show when it comes to Western and English Trail Pleasure classes. Bandit and rider/owner Jared Carrier won all of their classes in five of nine competitions and won the Amateur Owned & Trained (AOT) Pleasure High Point Award. In 2007, at the National Championships, Jared and Bandit placed first in Western Light Shod, Light Shod English, and the Western Light Shod Championship Class. Jared and Bandit are nationally ranked #1 overall as the high point Amateur-Owned and Trained Pleasure Horse for 2007.
Model 1316 the Appaloosa Little Tahoma depicts one of the horses descended from the spotted horses developed in the 1800s by the Nez Perce Native Americans, who selectively bred them to be hardy and agile for hunting and war. Today, those same qualities have helped Appaloosas succeed in many disciplines, such as jumping, dressage, racing, reining, and roping. The breed is most recognizable by its spotted coat patterns, mottled (spotted) skin around the eyes and muzzle, and its striped hooves.
This is just a small sampling of the Breyer Traditional model horses that win collectors' hearts and dollars all over the world year after year. This is a vast line of model horses.
